Nitzotzei Hazohar's Activities
The Amuta works closely with the Ramle Municipality to advance the mainstreaming of community-based people with special needs.
Currently, Nitzotzei Hazohar is operating in kindergartens and elementary schools.
The Amuta is currently involved in the process of building and operating an Educational Therapeutic Rehabilitative Center in the city of Ramle,
for maximal response to social, rehabilitative and therapeutic needs of people with special needs – all under one roof – in the vicinity of Ramle-Lod and the surrounding area.
Needs:
There is a great need to concentrate support services in one location for children, adolescents and adults with special needs.
Most centers in Israel cater to one type of disability, lacking the tools and knowledge for a multidisciplinary approach to multiple disabilities. The individual with special needs suffers as do the parents who are burdened with the need to travel from one center to another.
Statistical studies show that the number of individuals with special needs greatly
exceeds the number of places available. This means that numerous children and adolescents are not receiving the full/part treatment they need.
Objectives:
The Center will fulfill most of the social, rehabilitative and therapeutic needs of special-needs individuals – all under one roof.
The Center will become the warm home for children, adolescents and their families who have been coping with serious disability their entire lives, along with social limitations, complex medical problems, and bureaucracy.
Target population:
Children, adolescents and adults from the Ramle-Lod area who have developmental disabilities, such as medium to serious mental retardation, autism, Down syndrome, sensory and motor disturbances, CP, rare developmental syndromes, mild and serious learning disabilities and additional functional disabilities
1760 clients from age 3 to 21.
480 clients from age 21 to 67.
Referrals are with the assistance of the Steering Committee in Ramle City Hall.
The Center's services:
The Center will tailor a therapeutic program for each child, adolescent and adult, suited to the individual's capacities and needs.
Parents and relatives will be provided with information services, support, counseling and assistance in approaching the relevant authorities.
